The Sarmiento Heritage Foundation, Inc., a non-stock and non-profit organization established by its Chairman Demetrio P. Sarmiento on December 24, 2002, was duly incorporated with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Philippines on April 25, 2003 (SEC registration no. CN200309494). It was also registered with the Department of Social Welfare and Development on June 17, 2003 (DSWD registration no. 04-122-03).

The founder believes that the success of this foundation would be possible not only through the support of the Sarmiento family and their business enterprises but by reaching also the hearts of charitable individuals, families, groups, organizations, foundations and companies in the Philippines and abroad to help their less privileged countrymen.

The foundation has started as a charity giving activity during summer every year since 1997 through the assistance of the Saturday Choir that provided financial support to indigent individuals and families in the Philippines, India, Nepal and other countries. The Saturday Choir is a carolling group that sings Christmas songs to expatriates during their holiday gatherings in December.

It was then realized that a formal charity giving body would be set-up in the form of a foundation. Initially, it was proposed that a Saturday Choir Foundation would be formed. But eventually, Demy P. Sarmiento, the proponent, finally established his family charity which is now known as the Sarmiento Heritage Foundation, Inc. The Saturday Choir has been a partner of this foundation.
